CHIP Health Coverage Information If you have students who have CHIP health coverage, please be advised that the automatic extensions enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic are now expiring. Because of the pandemic, the federal government allowed a continuation of Medicaid (also known as Medical Assistance or MA) and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage for most people, even if they were no longer eligible. This is ending on March 31, 2023, and after April 1 - if the policy is not renewed, they risk losing health coverage. Please share this information with the families that you serve. 1. Families who are highly mobile are at the most risk of losing coverage. 2. Renewals need to be done through COMPASS and can be done by mail if a notification was received. Mail will not be forwarded to a new address. 3. Renewals can be done online at: https://www.dhs.pa.gov/PHE/Pages/default.aspx#:~:text=Online%20%E2%80%94%20Complete%20your%20renewal%20online,local%20county%20assistance%20office%20(CAO) 4. Renewals can also be done by phone: 1-866-550-4955 5. Renewals can be done in person at a local County Assistance Office.
